Rising cardiometabolic disease burden, rapid technological change, and shifting models of care demand a rethink of how health professionals are trained. The Centre responds by combining evidence-based teaching, competency-based learning, and Advanced Teaching and Learning Methods (ATLM) — including simulation, blended learning, and AI-enabled tools — to prepare professionals for modern clinical practice.
As a national hub for educational innovation, the Centre helps institutions and educators adopt modern approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment through curriculum development, simulation-based training, digital and blended learning resources, and competency-based assessment design.
The Centre designs its solutions to be scalable and sustainable, so that innovations tested at AIIMS can be adapted and adopted across institutions with varying levels of resources and infrastructure.
Faculty development is central to our mission. Through structured programmes, workshops, mentorship, certificate and fellowship courses, and communities of practice, the Centre equips educators to integrate new teaching methods and technologies, strengthen assessment, and conduct high-quality educational research — building the next generation of educational leaders.
The Centre fosters a culture of educational scholarship by supporting multidisciplinary research, mentoring emerging researchers, and building cross-institutional and international collaborations. This evidence drives real change — informing policy, curriculum design, and continuous quality improvement.
A key priority is strengthening education around the prevention, management, and control of cardiometabolic diseases — through standardized curricula, blended learning modules, and continuing professional development. Special emphasis is placed on nursing education, gender equity, and expanding access for underserved communities.
SARAL 2.0 is a digital learning initiative designed to strengthen medical education across India. Developed by the SET Facility, AIIMS New Delhi, the platform provides a unified digital ecosystem for educators and students, offering structured courses, expert learning resources, and collaborative tools to support blended learning.
Currently, SARAL 2.0 hosts courses developed by the SET Facility and other departments of AIIMS New Delhi and is expanding across PAN-AIIMS. The platform is envisioned to be opened to medical faculty across the country, providing robust technical infrastructure to support blended learning in medical education.

The initiative also seeks to pilot and scale transformative innovations in nursing education nationwide, working closely with PEP partners. A core priority is to broaden access to high quality, evidence based CMD education, particularly for female healthcare professionals.
The Centre uses a hub-and-spoke model to disseminate innovations, faculty programmes, and digital resources nationwide, powered by technology-enabled platforms and partnerships that drive collaborative research and faculty exchange. The Centre actively collaborates with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, professional bodies, policymakers, and international partners to strengthen educational leadership and build sustainable capacity in health professions education. Through these partnerships, it supports collaborative research, curriculum innovation, faculty development, certification programmes, and the advancement of educational excellence at regional, national, and global levels.
At its core, the Centre of Excellence is committed to transforming health professions education by fostering innovation, educational scholarship, and lifelong learning. By integrating Advanced Teaching and Learning Methods with educational research, digital innovation, and collaborative partnerships, the Centre aims to develop skilled educators, competent healthcare professionals, and resilient health systems, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes for communities across India and beyond.
