Centre of Excellence for Education of Health Professionals

The Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Education of Health Professionals is envisioned as a transformative initiative that seeks to strengthen and modernize health professions education through innovation, research, collaboration, and capacity building. Recognizing the evolving healthcare landscape and the growing burden of cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs), the project aims to develop a future-ready healthcare workforce equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to address complex public health challenges. The CoE serves as a platform for advancing educational excellence by promoting evidence-based teaching practices, fostering educational scholarship, and supporting the adoption of contemporary teaching-learning approaches across health professions education.

A key focus of the initiative is the development and implementation of scalable, equitable, and sustainable educational models that can be adapted across diverse healthcare settings. Through structured faculty development programmes, the CoE aims to strengthen the capabilities of healthcare educators and empower them to effectively utilize innovative pedagogical approaches, digital learning technologies, and competency-based educational frameworks. By enhancing the quality of teaching and assessment practices, the initiative seeks to improve learning outcomes and better prepare healthcare professionals for real-world clinical practice.

The CoE also promotes a strong culture of research and innovation in health professions education. By supporting educational research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and generating evidence to inform policy and practice, the project contributes to the continuous improvement of healthcare education systems. Particular emphasis is placed on developing innovative educational interventions for the prevention, management, and control of cardiometabolic diseases, while ensuring that gender equity and the needs of vulnerable populations remain integral to programme design and implementation.

In addition, the initiative seeks to strengthen both pre-service and in-service education by developing, piloting, and scaling innovative training models for healthcare professionals. Through strategic partnerships and collaborative networks, the CoE supports the dissemination of best practices, the sharing of educational resources, and the adoption of successful innovations across institutions. Special attention is given to advancing nursing education and expanding access to high-quality learning opportunities for female healthcare professionals, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and resilient healthcare workforce.

By bringing together educators, researchers, policymakers, and healthcare professionals, the Centre of Excellence aims to create a vibrant ecosystem that fosters continuous learning, innovation, and leadership in health professions education. Through its efforts, the CoE seeks to contribute to the development of a competent, confident, and socially responsive healthcare workforce capable of improving health outcomes and addressing the healthcare needs of communities across India.
